Christian Hochfeld was born in 1969 and studied Industrial and Environmental Engeneeering focusing on Environmental and Resource Economics at the Technical University of Berlin in Germany. Since 1996 he works as a Scientist at the Öko-Institut within the Infrastructure & Enterprises division.

His main fields of work are Corporate Social Responsibility, the Integration of the Vision of Sustainable Development in corporate strategy and practice, Sustainable Product Development and Assessment, Social Responsible Investment and Non-Financial Reporting.

For the last years Christian Hochfeld was responsible for advising the 2006 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee Germany on the concept and implementation of Green GoalTM, the environmental programme of the FIFA World Cup 2006TM.

Environmental concepts of major sporting events

The workshop will introduce successful environmentally-sound concepts of major sporting events. It will give a brief overall view of the environmental challenges organizers of major sports events are facing and demonstrate how organizers of major sporting events recognized those challenges, developed and implemented ambitious environmentally-sound concepts like Green Goal for the FIFA World Cup 2006TM in Germany.

In addition international best practice of convincing action to reduce the environmental footprint of major sporting events will be introduced. This will lead to practical recommendations and guidelines for organizers of future events how to turn green into gold so that sporting events and the environment can go hand in hand.
