Mark Held
General Secretary
EOG Association for conservation
www.eogconservation.org
background
Mark Held was born in northern England in 1959 and has been fascinated by the natural environment ever since his school days. He worked in various senior positions at companies such as Berghaus and Lowe Alpine before joining the EOG. Originally founded in 2003 by 19 of the world’s largest outdoor companies, EOG recognized the need for a cohesive, cross-border approach to representation of the outdoor sector.
In 2006, the EOG Association for Conservation was founded with the objective of protecting wild areas that we care so passionately about. Held is Secretary General of both organizations and also represents this group in the FESI (Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry).
take action
Held describes himself as "one of the strange breed of people who have been in the outdoor industry for all their working life." He continues: "As a result, I know my industry very well and I represent the world’s largest outdoor brands. But in the VOLVO SportsDesign FORUM I am just a small voice, telling you what we, the EOG and the Association for Conservation, are doing."
"We all are inspired by the level of speakers that are presenting here and bringing in their knowledge to the sporting goods and outdoor industry. The outdoor industry is facing a big challenge to respond to environmental changes and therefore EOG has decided to take action. Our outdoor environment is a majestic, but fragile and diverse ecosystem. It is an inspirational place and a refuge from the pressures of life."
Held will give an inside view on outdoor consumer behavior and needs, and demonstrate through case studies what the Association for Conservation aims to achieve.
