design: Johannes Pressmar

product description

Skiing is all about nature: The goal is to traverse the natural element of snow using the natural material of wood. Johannes Pressmar, a student at the University of Rosenheim, has developed a ski that is friendly to health, the environment and natural resources without compromising functionality, quality or design. Materials are reduced as much as possible, and each step of processing is made in accordance with the anisotropic characteristics of the wood, avoiding energy waste.

The ski consists of 82% ash wood that originates from local forests and is air-dried. Ash wood is hard and tough, yet elastic and pliable. The top layer is made out of fibreglass and the sides are oiled. The production process excludes softeners, lacquer or solvents. The ski is made of individual layers of ash wood, fibreglass, steel edges and regular running surface material, all glued together piece by piece in a curved mould. By using the best possible combination of wood and fibreglass, further materials are not necessary.

The natural beauty and the grain of the ash wood as well as individual elements of design determine the appearance of the ski. The product concept is based on the customer’s identification with the product: sports equipment with a timeless and individual design — a ski for a lifetime.
