Ecomoana
Surfboard
design: Günther Doll
retail price: 560 Euro
product description
Ecomoana is a classically designed surfboard from California. Ecomoana’s efforts as a surfboard manufacturer include working to phase-out fossil fuels while pointing the way to green solutions that do not damage the climate. Today, they are proud to be an advanced eco-friendly surfing company with a full surfboard collection.
Ecomoana is reducing by 60% the harmful effect of petroleum-based materials. At the same time, they are working on using as little energy as possible in the production line. They use EPS foam, a lighter and stronger foam that is both longer-lived and more recyclable compared with polyboards and flax fibres, a bio based resin derived from soy for the glassing. The resin contains of 50% petroleum and 50% bio-based resin, which ensure the board lasts as long as regular 100% petroleum-based surfboards.
Ecomoana is working on a biodegradable surfboard for 2009.
