Arbor
Wasteland
design: Bob Carslon
retail price: 649 Euro
product description
Arbor’s long-standing assertion is that solutions to many of today’s most difficult snow, skate and apparel design challenges exist in the natural world. Since 1995, they’ve built Arbor around this belief — replacing environmentally harmful materials with ecologically based, natural alternatives. The goal is to create a higher level of function and relevance in the most responsible way.
The “Wasteland” is the first Arbor board in which an EcoTechnology used to improve the board performance and style has also become part of the graphic. It has become the flagship of the Arbor snowboard line, combining the latest Arbor EcoTechnologies with the highest degree of engineering, latest construction methods and best materials available
For years Arbor wanted to design a board using marquetry, an ancient technique that creates pictorial mosaics out of inlaid, usually exotic materials such as wood, precious metal, mother-of-pearl, etc. Today marquetry is used in high-end guitars and furniture, adding a level of design that turns materials into art.
The new 2009 Wasteland uses five separate types of real wood veneer to create an image that speaks about the environment, our need to protect it and the results if we do nothing. The natural variance of real wood grain in Arbor’s wood topsheets creates a one-of-a-kind look. All of the materials used to produce Arbor's exclusive wood top technologies are obtained from suppliers who produce their wood products sustainably.
